Basketball Academy

Years 9 -12

(Year 7 and Year 8 commencing 2018)

The BHSSC Basketball Academy began in 1995 and has become arguably the most successful basketball program in the country.

Over the years, both the boys and girls teams of the BHSSC basketball program have won numerous Victorian and National titles.

Many students in the BHSSC basketball program have also accomplished significant individual achievements including:

  • AIS Scholarships
  • Australian Teams Selection
  • NBL/WNBL Contracts
  • USA College Scholarships   -   Since 1997, there have been over 60 BHSSC basketball program athletes awarded with USA College Basketball Scholarships

Our coaches have all played and/or coached at the elite level.  The program combines both the academic and basketball aspects of the student’s time at the College.  A feature is that the basketball time is built into the student’s timetabled schedule.  In addition to  basketball skills there are fitness and conditioning sessions.

The overall aim of the program is to improve the performance of every student athlete.

Year 7 - 9 Academy

The Year 7 - 9 Academy is a select-entry program for males and females. It is only open to VJBL representative players who have experience playing at the championship level or have the potential to play at this level.

Tournaments

Year 9 students will have the opportunity to participate in the Victorian College Championships (VCC).

Note – the aim of the program is to improve the player’s individual performance for their Representative team outside of school. Whilst tournaments are a good opportunity for further development, they are not the sole focus of the program.

 Academic requirements (GPA)

Students are required to maintain a GPA (Grade Point Average) above 2.0.
