The Arts

Box Hill Senior Secondary College provides a unique learning experience for senior students who are interested in the Visual and Performing Arts.  The College has exceptional facilities (see below) and offers a broad range of subjects and courses linked to pathways in the Arts and Music industries. We also use industry professionals to further support student learning needs, linked to potential entrepreneurship and start-up interests that students may have.

Visual Arts

The BHSSC Visual Arts program offers students a broad range of subject offerings include drawing, painting, printmaking, fashion, visual communication and design, digital media and art appreciation.  The learning focus involves students making and responding to artworks, and drawing on the world as a source of ideas.  Students engage with and develop knowledge of the visual arts, skills, techniques and processes, and use materials as they explore a range of forms, styles and contexts.

Contemporary Music

The BHSSC  Music program offers students with a keen interest in contemporary music, opportunities to participate in:

  • The College band program and to perform at lunchtime concerts and venues around Melbourne using a full band PA system
  • Recording projects whilst receiving expert advice on singing and audio engineering, within our on-site recording studio
  • individual instrumental lessons on guitar/bass, drums and voice (other instruments are added dependent on student interest)
  • a balance of theory and practical work, through electives at Years 9 and 10 or VCE/VETis subjects and courses at Years 11 and 12.

Performing Arts

BHSSC has a rich history of students being involved in in the Performing Arts. Students have the opportunity of studying electives at Years 9 and 10 or by engaging in either VCE or VETis subjects and courses in Drama or Theatre Studies, dependent on student pathways and interests.
