BOXFEST - BHSSC
The Music Department's annual concert was held at the fabulous Thornbury Theatres' Velvet Room on August 19 - The audience were amazed at the performances by over 20 groups, featuring students from years 10 to 12 as well as our music staff band!
Congratulations to all performers and to the year 11 VET Technical Production class who organised the event and to all the families, friends and staff who came along.

Box Hill SSC would like to congratulate our basketballers of 2014 who successfully gained scholarships to Colleges in the USA with one also being selected in the NBA, this adds to our impressive total of over 65 student/athletes who have gained basketball scholarships at USA Colleges & Universities
Najvada George and Lucy Cochrane on your selection into the Australian U'17 Sapphires Basketball Team. The girls played against New Zealand, New Caledonia and Tahiti in the Oceania World Championships in August. They will now play in the World Championships in 2016.

Rory Kendall-McHugh has been chosen to participate in the National YouthScience Forum in Canberra in January 2016. This is a National selection process with rigorous written submissions and interviews. Well Done Rory

Snow Camp - Heavy falls of fresh powder snow enabled our students to brush up on their snowboarding and skiing techniques as well as a bit of showing off!
Our Music Department spent a week in a series of workshops and performances with guest artist Valanga Khoza. Students were spellbound by stories of his amazing life told with the wit of a truly great storyteller. Students were singing Valanga's songs, playing their own instruments as well as those African drums. pictured on right are Tori A, Valanga, Pete Ryan (Head of Music) and El M.

2014 VCE results
BHSSC would like to congratulate all students who completed their secondary studies in 2014 with many students achieving their personal best. We wish them well in their future endeavours.
The following students achieved a study score of 40 and above placing them in the top 8% of students in Victoria for the study/subject:

Congratulations to our 2014 DUX - Darcy Crocker
Darcy scored in the high 30's for both Literature and Accounting. He also scored in the 40's for English and an outstanding 50 for Business Management. This gave Darcy an ATAR in the 90's placing him in the top 8% of students in the state of Victoria.
In addition to his academic achievements, Darcy has been totally committed to the school football program. He was an intergral part of the Premier League Championship team and the team that were runners up in the Herald Sun Sheild.

Future Australian basketball star Ben Simmons is pictured with his parents Dave and Julie signing with Louisiana State University last Thursday but it went next level when Shaquille O'Neal commented "LSU just signed the best player in the world. Check him out.'

|Michael Wearne a perfect fit for Eastern Washington University|
Michael Wearne, the 6'1 guard from Melbourne, officially signed with Eastern Washington University last Wednesday night, he has been described as 'a perfect fit'. Michael committed to Eastern Washington in October.

Congratulations to Rachel Limburg who participated in the School Sports Victoria finals recently. She achieved fist place in Under 17 High Jump, Long Jump, 100m Hurdles and scored a record breaking 12.45m in Shot put.
What an amazing achievement!
Natasha Morey chosen for the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra 2015
Each year, Rotary through an extensive series of interviews, chooses a select group of high achieving students from around Australia to take part in the National Youth Science Forum in Canberra over Summer. The process is highly competitive with a large contingent of private school students vying for the available places. The chosen students attend the Australian National University in January 2015 for a week of field work, research, lectures and future planning related to science. Natasha Morey (Year 11 Chemistry, Biology, Physics) has been selected to attend the National Youth Science Forum 2015. Congratulations Tash!
Brit recently spent the day at the Olympic Academy, where she got to meet and talk with current and past Olympians as well as participating in a number of workshops led by these Olympians. Brit heard the Olympians talk about the kinds of challenges that she is facing, particularly finding balance in life, among all the demands faced by elite athletes, especially those still at school. Brit received a certificate and a Victorian Olympic Council pin/badge.
