Travel Opportunities

Overseas & National Tours

Students at our college have an opportunity to participate in a range of local, interstate and overseas study camps and tours.  These learning experiences are designed to provide students with an opportunity to enhance their studies in general terms or from a cultural exchange perspective, as part of our College academic and Sports Academy based programs.

USA & National Championship Basketball Tours

Students at Box Hill Senior Senior Secondary College have opportunities to participate in both national and international competitions.

As part of the Sports Academy program, students will be offered the opportunity to participate in tours to USA, which occurs every two years dependent on student interest.   Participation in these extra-curricular opportunities is based around levels of student interest, academic progress and performance and attendance, as per school and DET guidelines. Selection priority is given to students in years 11 and 12, however Year 10’s are also considered dependent on individual team needs. .
These tours provide an amazing opportunity to combine basketball (Tennis will also be considered from 2025 and beyond), cultural exchanges, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences which include seeing NBA and major College games live in person. Our tours generally take place in November/December after all exams have been completed. For students interested in attaining an athletic scholarship to a USA College it is an opportunity to perform before College scouts who attend some of the games. In 2025, the College will investigate offering students within the Basketball Academy program the opportunity to attend and participate in a select entry AAU tournament in Las Vegas, for highly ranked and well performing student-athletes.

Student-athletes in the Basketball Academy program also have an opportunity to compete and attend the National Highschool Championships based on successful competition results during the year.  For any of the above mentioned opportunities, all student-athletes are expected to meet academic progress and performance requirements (as indicated by Grade Point Averages – GPA’s), exemplary behaviour and attitude, and meet all College/DET attendance expectations .

AFL/AFLW Performance Camp

For student-athletes involved in our AFL or AFLW Sports Academy program, there is the possibility to participate our AFL/AFLW Performance Camp, dependent on academic progress and performance requirements (as indicated by Grade Point Averages – GPA’s), exemplary behaviour and attitude, and meeting all College/DET attendance expectations. This College Performance Camp will include training sessions, guest lectures, video analysis, fitness testing and playing opportunities to assist our student-athletes with their understanding of the potential AFL/AFLW pathways and possibilities available to students. This camp is currently in its planning phase and will be offered to students in 2024 and beyond.

All camps and tours are non-compulsory additional elements to our general Academy programs, which run each week. Details of each respective camp or tour will be provided to our student-athletes and their families at designated times throughout the year.
