Inclusion, Engagement and Wellbeing

Box Hill Senior Secondary College promotes the importance of a safe, supportive, and stimulating environment where all our students can achieve success.  As a Senior Secondary College, we focus on individual pathways to success and in partnership with the learner, their parents, and our staff, we strive to ensure that all students are ready to learn, are resilient, future ready and enterprising.

Our school promotes the importance of diversity and inclusion. Recognising the talents of every young person and championing the belief that “every student can achieve success given the right environment and supports” (Dr Lynn Sharrat).  This is harnessed through access to student led clubs, sporting opportunities and the cocurricular Arts and Technology.

The Inclusion, Engagement and Wellbeing Team is led by an Assistant Principal, in conjunction with the Leading Teacher – Head of Student Services, with support from Education Support Staff in counselling and classroom support. We are fortunate as well to have a Mental Health Practitioner.  Underpinning the pastoral care program is our approach to advocacy.  At BHSSC, each student is paired with a teacher Advocate who oversees their growth and individual success in each phase of their journey with us.

Our ADVOCACY program promotes

  • The success of each learner
  • The importance of Respect and Relationships
  • The importance of attendance
  • Opportunities for student agency that extend to their academic program
  • The Importance of supporting individual needs
  • Character strengths and supports students to reflect on these as a key part of the learner as navigator of their learning journey.
  • Career guidance and pathway success
  • Health and wellbeing and resilience
