Strength & Conditioning

Box Hill Senior Secondary College is committed to providing students with a high-quality educational experience, including educating all of our student-athletes, about the relevant sports science and training regimes required to support elite level performance. As part of our sport specific Academy programs, all student-athletes undertake a compulsory and personalised strength and conditioning program that helps students develop cardiovascular fitness, strength and whole-body conditioning to maximise their athletic potential.

All students have a personalised program, tailored to individual needs, under the professional supervision of our High Performance Manager, Adam Roberts. Our 24/7 on-line sports science platforms allow students to collect and collate physical performance data in real time, so that athletic progress and performance are monitored throughout the year. This data also allows students to set personal fitness goals, while being able to seek feedback from coaches and the High Performance Manager. When needed, our personalised approach to strength and conditioning also allows student athletes to complete rehabilitation programs even when injured, so that students are always able to improve.

Strength and Conditioning is part of the weekly program for all Academy student-athletes, regardless of what sport they undertake and comprises of weekly strength and flexibility training, fitness testing at certain points of the year, guest speakers and access to sports science specialists to build student-athlete understanding of what is required in elite and high performing sports teams and organisations.

In 2026, Strength and Conditioning will also be offered as another stand-alone Academy program for students not undertaking a specific Academy sport (AFL/AFLW/Basketball/Tennis). This program will range from 2-4 hours per week, with appropriate fees (as per Sports Academy expectations) to provide additional non-compulsory and extra-curricular opportunities for students to explore. Potentially, interested students could also undertake VET industry based training partially delivered through our Academy programs which provides students with future pathways opportunities linked to their interests and passion for sport and physical activity
