Basketball - USA College Scholarships
An alternative pathway available to elite-level players who wish to pursue their love of basketball whilst studying for a tertiary qualification is to apply for a basketball scholarship to a USA College.
Coaches from USA Colleges visit the College regularly and BHSSC has been very successful in preparing athletes for this pathway. Since 1997, more than 70 BHSSC basketball program students have been awarded basketball scholarships to study in USA colleges. Recent BHSSC graduates who have been successful in receiving scholarships include:-
- Sharna Ayres (2018) Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
- Tyler Robertson (2018) Eastern Washington University, Cheney, Washington
- Keli Leaupepe (2018) Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles, California
- Jamie Ahale (2016) University of Illinois, Chicago
- Abby Zhang (2017) Concordia University, Portland Oregon
- Anneli Maley (2016) Texas Christian University
- Max Richards (2017) State College of Florida
There are a large number of USA colleges that offer basketball as a sport and the type of scholarships available and eligibilty requirements of the Colleges vary greatly. BHSSC students have generally attended one of the following types of Colleges:-
- NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 Colleges
- NAIA Colleges
- NJCAA Junior Colleges
BHSSC administrative staff work with student athletes to ensure that their academic program is compatible with USA College requirements.
